SHOES FIT FOR CINDERELLA

Jimmy Choo Cinderella pumps
It’s pretty shocking to think these shoes have been in the world for a while now, and I’m only just getting round to showing you them, isn’t it?
I do have an excuse, though. You see, today is my birthday, and I don’t really like birthdays much. (Yes, I know, I’m weird like that.) I do, however, like shoes, and I thought these would be a rather nice little birthday present to myself, albeit an imaginary one. (If they were a REAL present, I’d probably like birthdays a whole lot more, let’s put it that way…)
They’re Jimmy Choo’s ‘Cinderella’ pumps, and they may not have that “glass slipper” look we’re used to associating with good ol’ Cinders, but they ARE shoes fit for a princess, and I’m pretty sure she’d have approved of them – and maybe taken a little more care not to lose one, come to think of it. At this price, you definitely wouldn’t want to take your eyes off these for a second, let alone leave them behind: they cost £2,995, which means I’d probably want to have an armed guard following me around all night anytime I dared to wear them. Failing that, though, I guess you could always go for something a little less expensive:
Jimmy Choo Anouk
I’m sure anyone who knows their shoes will have recognised these as Jimmy Choo’s ‘Anouk’: they’re one of the brand’s best-known styles, and are frequently spotted on celebrities as they walk the red carpet – and no wonder. When I said they were “a little less expensive”, the emphasis was on the word “little” – at £425, these are hardly what you’d call the budget option, even although they might seem like it compared to the ‘Cinderella’ shoes above them. Hmmm, I wonder if Shoeperman would buy that justification, actually? “But look how much cheaper they were than the OTHER shoes I liked!”

PEEP TOES FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE POLKA DOTS

polka dot peep toe sandals
Do you love polka dots? Because I really love polka dots: probably a little bit too much, if the truth be told. I also, however, love peep toe shoes, so when La Redoute decided to combine two of my very favourite things, it was always guaranteed to get my attention.
These polka dot peep toe flats are from the brand’s ‘Mademoiselle R’ line, which is slightly more youthful and lower priced than some of La Redoute’s other offerings. At the time of writing, for instance, these shoes are just £17 on sale, and £29 full price. That’s probably about as much as I’d be prepared to pay for a pair of fabric flats (especially in a light colour, like the white/navy version shown), because I tend to be pretty hard on them, and I can’t see them lasting more than a summer – or maybe two, with a bit of luck. It’s still a price I’d be willing to pay, though, because these are both fun and chic – and thanks to the low heel, they should be comfortable, too.
These are exactly the kind of shoes, in fact, which are perfect to throw in your suitcase for a summer holiday. They’d be comfortable enough (Or I assume so, anyway: you can never really know for sure until you put them to the test, can you?) for a day’s sightseeing, lightweight enough to throw in your beach bag for a day lounging by the pool/sea, and still dressy enough to wear out to dinner in the evening. The biggest issue will be which colour to go for: I currently have both pairs on my wish list, so I can’t help you with that one, I’m afraid, but as far as dilemmas go, it’s a very fun one to have, don’t you think? Which would you go for?

BEAUTIFUL BLUE BOW SHOES BY LITTLE MISTRESS

blue shoes with bow at ankle
Little Mistress is a brand I’ve been increasingly impressed with – both for their dresses and their shoes. Not only are their prices pretty reasonable (these shoes, for instance, are £58), they’re also a little more interesting than many of the other shoes we’re seeing on the high street at the moment.
Navy shoes can be a little trickier to find than black one, which is a shame, because navy is an awesome neutral, and I personally find it less harsh than black can be against my pale skin, so I have quite a few navy dresses, and other items, which I struggle to find shoes to wear with. These ones, however, would be a great option for dress occasions: I love the satin upper, but I love that over-sized ankle bow even more, and think these would make a really useful addition to my shoedrobe.
I also really like these ones:
navy and black satin high heel shoes
Having avoided the combination of navy and black for years now, I’ve started to come round to it, and I think it works particularly well on these heels, which have a navy satin upper, combined  with a black t-bar, lined with little bows. It’s a very sophisticated look, which would allow these to be work with either navy or black , without either colour looking out of place, or clashing with the shoes.
If you’re looking for something a little more daytime appropriate, however, these floral print pumps are very spring-like, and a breath of fresh air:
blue floral print pumps
This print is just so fresh and pretty: these would be gorgeous with a white dress or skirt, say, but they’d also work well with a causal classic like a pair of blue jeans and a white shirt – and easy way to let the shoes be the focal point of the outfit, just as they deserve.

OUR GUIDE TO CHIC & WEARABLE MATERIALS

With all the different materials we have in our range, it can be a little intimidating when you first start to design your shoes. If you are anything like me, and suffer from major decision paralysis, it can be tough choosing from all our options!
That is why I've decided to break down the fabric decision making process into a few simple steps.

1. Situation
Firstly, I like to start with the situation that I'll be wearing the shoes in. For an everyday office heel or a versatile ballet flat, I would consider something that is durable and comfortable enough to be in all day.
2. Environment
Next, consider the environment - if I'm going somewhere outdoors that's likely to have me stomping across grass I would need something that is hard-wearing and can handle all types of weather. I would also most likely go with something that is easy to clean too.
3. Outfit
Lastly, I would consider the type of outfits I plan to wear these shoes with. Do I want something that is versatile that I can wear with anything? Or do I want something that will be a statement piece and brighten up my whole outfit?
Phew! That's still a lot of things to consider! So, to help you along the design process, I've compiled a list of some of our all-time favourite materials.

SOFT LEATHER
If I'm creating an everyday office heel to scoot from the train to the office in then I'll use the butter soft, classic yet practical soft leather. Combining looks and durability, this ultra-vibrant lambskin offers serious bang for your buck. Consider it as the LBD of materials: polished, practical and perfect for every occasion! Soft leather can be stunning as a full design or pair it with more exuberant materials for a grounding effect!

PATENT LEATHER
For an even more hard wearing option, I'll go with a patent leather. It's super-durable and virtually waterproof! The trick you may not know here is that patent leather barely stretches at all where as soft leather will get to know and love your feet over time. If you've chosen a closed toe design and used patent leather then you can expect these to be a nice firm fit.

SUEDE
Furry, soft and stretchy suede on the other hand is full of give and may in fact stretch more than you're hoping it will over time. When you partner this with a peep toe design that has a heel (thereby pushing your feet forward) you can be almost certain that it will stretch enough to have you need to use insoles over time - which is why we include a lovely insole pack with every pair of shoes! Any suede shoes or accessories should be protected because of the permeability to stains. Because of the material's ability to take up dye so well, colours can vary a little between batches and may fade over time.
I'm loving red suede this season because it has the ability to bring a beautiful pop of colour to any outfit. You can pair it with pink suede for a great colour blocking look. Or pair it with zebra print hair to give a nod to this season's hottest monochrome look.

JODIE'S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE - ANNOUNCING OUR POOLSIDE CHALLENGE WINNER!

There was some stiff competition for this final leg of the challenge, and we loved that so many designers played with contrasting cool blues with earth tones to reflect the poolside environment. But what impressed us most was the wide variety of designs, and how the different takes on our sandals styles seemed to reflect each designer's summer personality.
Congratulations to Allison S. for this winning design!

Alison's design is perfect for making a splash at every outdoor function during the festive summer season! We particularly loved her use of our Faded Soft Leathers, as the smooth texture and faded appearance makes it the natural choice for summer. Pairing this material with cork gives the overall design a casual elegance destined for plenty of poolside compliments!
