5 LONG WEEKEND POOL ESSENTIALS
No work. Sun. A slight breeze. Al fresco dining. The beach (or pool). The coconut-y smell of sunblock. Margaritas. Absolutely nothing to do. These are the things that great Fourth of July weekends are made of.
If your long weekend plans include a trip to the pool, here are five essentials to be sure you have.

Swim trunks. Lots of options and things to consider here. How long or short should your swim trunks be? Plain color, simple pattern or wild pattern? I have a few pairs of swim trunks, but my go-to is a simple black suit with a five-inch inseam. I like the classic style of shorter trunks over the surfer bro vibes of longer board shorts.
Summer shirt. Every summer I have one shirt that I pretty much wear our. It’s usually one that I can wear in a variety of situations from the pool, to a date, to a casual stroll in the park. This season, it’s been this palm tree number.
GOING TO THE BEACH? Here’s what you need.
Stylish shades. Instead of your usual sunglasses, reach for a pair that have a little more character for fun in the sun. A clear frame or clip-ons are a good choice.

Straw hat. A long day at the pool requires some headwear. I tend to not like to wear my Panama hat to the pool because the sunblock can stain it. Instead, a short brimmed straw hat gets the job done.
Reading material. As much as I love the internet, there’s nothing like holding a magazine in your hands. Plus, online you just don’t get the same experience when it comes to photo essays. Plus, magazine subscriptions are ridiculously cheap.
