Of all the trends to come out of the Spring/Summer 2016 runway shows, pajama dressing might be our favorite. Combining luxurious fabrics, relaxed fits and colorful prints, it's the lazy girl's answer for how to get dressed this season and look effortlessly stylish.
The biggest brand making waves in the trend of pajama dressing is an Italia luxury label called For Restless Sleepers. The clothes truly are pajamas, but by showing during Milan Fashion Week, the brand was able to establish their pieces as trend-forward looks that definitely could and should be worn out of the bedroom.
Dolce & Gabbana sent models in head-to-toe pajama looks down the runway for their SS16 collection, in matching silk shirts and wide-leg trousers adorned with rich floral prints and Sonia Rykiel showed her pajama looks with a fur stole. Alexander Wang went a more minimal route, showing a relaxed, boxy shirt with a pajama-style lapel paired with black pants.
The idea of wearing your sleepwear out of the house might sound intimidating at first, but it's not as weird as it might seem. All you really need to make this trend work is to take the thing that's labeled as "pajamas" out of context. As soon as you take a silky button-up nightshirt in a colorful print and pair it with jeans or a cool skirt, suddenly it doesn't look like you wore your actual pajamas to the office or brunch with your girlfriends.
For example, we love the idea of wearing Sleepy Jones' silk pajama pants with sandals and a silk blouse or Bodas' peach sleep shirt tucked into a white eyelet skirt.
However, if you want to embrace the trend fully, we're all about that, too!
An untucked pajama shirt paired with wide leg trousers and a great pair of earrings and heels is the ultimate lazy girl's night out look. Or, wear a slinky slip dress under a robe coat. The best part of this trend is that you can go as subtle or as bold as you like.
Ahead, we found 15 pajama and pajama-inspired pieces (at just about every price point) to wear this spring—and provide helpful styling tips and ideas for each one.
