January through March (and even into June!) is rodeo season in Texas! All across The Lone Star State people come from far and wide to watch and participate in events ranging from bull-riding to barrel racing, steer roping and even wrestling.
Rodeos are a storied tradition throughout the West and Southwestern states in the U.S. and a great excuse for a vacation. Whether you travel to Texas as a family, as a couple or with a group of girlfriends, you can explore the best of what Texas has to offer—and do it in style.
Rodeo season in Texas is the perfect excuse to rock the Western trend too. To really embrace the attitude and atmosphere of the rodeo, try mixing cowboy boots and fringed accessories with peasant blouses, bandanas and even a poncho or printed scarf.
These stand-out trend pieces (that are actually timeless in the right context) should be packed along with your favorite basics, and may vary depending on the weather forecast during your trip. A good place to start is with your capsule wardrobe! Definitely pack a chambray shirt, black skinny jeans and a simple silk camisole to start... And don't forget your aviator sunglasses!
For added Americana points, try sticking to a color palette that is mostly red, white, blue, cognac and black. (That will also make creating outfits each day way easier.)
Ahead, we got a head-start on the packing for you, selecting four different outfits you might need during your rodeo getaway in Texas. We created two daytime rodeo looks, an outfit for walking around town as well as going out for barbecue at night.
